How To Knit - Casting On

In order to knit, you need to start with two straight needles and a ball of yarn. To begin, tie a slip knot in the end of the yarn. Slip this over both of the needles, and pull the string tight. Then, hold both of the needles in you right hand, with the points pointing towards your left hand. With your left hand, do a thumbs-up sign. Put the yarn that's attached to the ball so that the ball of yarn is under your left hand. Now, wrap the string around you thumb clockwise and pull the needles downward without letting the knot slip off the needles. In front of your thumb, there should be a triangle shape. Slide both needles into this triangle and slip it off your thumb. You now have two stitches on your needle. Repeat this until you have as many stitches on your needles as you want. When you're done, carefully slide one needle out. Hold this blank needle in your right hand, and the needle with the stitches in your left. You hve now cast on an amount of stitches.
