Starting Your Website

To start your website, you must first have a page. In order to do this, you can get an account on one of many different sites. Some you can pay to have a "domain" name site, which is one that you can choose the URL. The URL is the text in the white box at the top of your browser. In this case, you can choose a .com, or a .net site. You can name your site, example: angelfire.com. You can also have a free website, which has limits on storage. But these are generally best for beginning HTML or first websites. For one of these websites, you must find a website hoster. Freesite.net and angelfire.lycos.com are my favorites. I don't know much about Freesite.net, but since I use Angelfire, I can tell you all about that. First of all, one of the major disadvantages is that your URL will have ".angelfire.com" at the end of it. Your username will be first, followed by a period and then the above, then the file that your page is in, a forward slash, and then the file name. In Angelfire, you can use two different kinds of editors for your pages. One is the Basic editor, which is very simple and uncomplicated. It doesn't require any HTML coding at all. The other kind of editor is the Advanced editor, which is a block into which you can type HTML coding to code your Web pages.
