The Shar Pei tends to have very wrinkly skin, which makes even the puppies look old. On the adults, the wrinkles may be only on their head, neck and back. They are also born with a frowning expression, but this only adds to the humorous look. Their golden to brown coat is short and easy to groom, but the wrinkles make it hard to groom them. Both genders of the breed are both medium sized and have medium weights. They are 18½-20 inches, and they weigh 35-44 pounds. They are independent, but still friendly and a good companion.
