Portuguese Water Dog

This dog is often mistaken for the Standard Poodle.  He indeed does use the same show trim of the Poodle, but they don’t have such a refined head.  He was trained by Portuguese fishermen to fetch lost nets.  Their coat has the same curliness of the Poodle, The Portuguese Water Dog’s coat is generally black or brown.  They are also as large as the Standard Poodle, with the male at 20-22˝ inches, and the female at 17-20˝ inches tall.  The male weighs 42-55 pounds, and the female weighs 35-48˝ pounds.  They are tireless and agreeable, and they are good family dogs thanks to their cheerful attitudes.
