Irish Terrier
The Irish Terrier
is one of the original terriers. His coat is dense and wiry, colored a solid
color, usually bright red, golden red, wheaten, or red wheaten. The males
should weigh 27 pounds and be about 18 inches tall. The females should weigh
about 25 pounds, and also be about 18 inches at the shoulder. The Irish Terrier is a good watchdog, and in World War I, they were
used as messengers and sentinels. The origins of these dogs are debatable, but
they are definitely an old breed. They are smart, quick, deeply respectful of
their owner, good around children, and they guard their home with determination.
