Tweedy Twosome Sweater
This sweater had both a cap and a sweater. The sweater is a button-close with pockets and a collar. The hat has a pom pom at the top.
Sizes: XS, (S, MEDIUM, L, XL) Measurements: Bust (buttoned): 40 (44, 48, 52, 56) inches. Length: 25 (25.5, 26, 26.5, 27) inches. MATERIALS: 1,320 (1,430; 1,650; 1,870; 2,090) yards of White/Primary for jacket and 220 yards for the cap. You will need size 10 knitting needles, size 9 knitting needles, a cable needle, five 3/4-inch diameter buttons, two stitch markers, a yarn needle, and a 5 mm crochet hook. SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS: K1b: Knit in back of the next stitch. Ssk: Slip the next two stitches knitwise, one at a time to the right-hand needle, insert tip of the left hand needle into the fronts of these two stitches and knit together. M1: Lift running thread before next stitch onto left-hand needle and knit in its back loop to make 1 stitch. STITCHES USED: BODY PATTERN: Row 1: Purl. Row 2: Knit 1; (purl 1, k1b) across, ending purl 1, knit 1. Repeat rows 1-2 for body pattern. CABLE PANEL: Row 1 (Wrong side): Purl. Row 2: Purl 2, Knit 2, purl 1, k1b, purl 1, knit 1, purl 2. Rows 3-10: Repeat rows 1-2. Row 11: Repeat row 1. Row 12: Purl 2, place next 5 stitches onto cable needle and hold at the back of the work, knit 2, (purl 1, k1b, purl 1, knit 2) from cable needle, purl 2. REpeat rows 1-12 for Cable Panel. Instructions as follows: BACK: Beginning at the lower edge, with the larger needles, cast on 81 (89, 97, 105, 113) stitches. Work Body Pattern to approx. 16.5 inches from the beginning, ending with a wrong side row. Armhole Shaping: Bind off 6 (9, 11, 14, 16) stitches at the beginning of the next two rows-69 (71, 75, 77, 81) stitches. Keeping 1 stitch each edge in Stockinette stitch, continue in established pattern to approx. 24 (24.5, 25, 25.5, 26) inches from beginning, ending with a wronog side row. Neck Shaping: Pattern across first 24 (25, 26, 27, 28) stitches, join a new ball of yarn and bind off center 21 (21, 23, 23, 25) stitches, work to end of row. Working sides seperately and at the ame time, decrease 1 stitch at each neck edge twice. Continue in pattern oon 22 (23, 24, 25, 26)stitches for each shoulder until piece measures approx. 25 (25.5, 262, 26.5, 27) inches from beginning, ending with a wrong side row. Bind off knitwise. LEFT FRONT: Beginning at lower edge with larger needes, cast on 42 (46, 50, 54, 58) stitches. First Row: Knit 5 for Garter Stitch border, Row 1 of Body Pattern across. Second Row: Row 2 of Body Pattern across, ending knit 5. Pattern is now set. Work even to approx. 4 inches from beginning, ending with a wrong side row. Set Up for Cable Pattern: Work established pattern on first 13( 15, 17, 21, 23) stitches, place marker, Row 2 of CAble Pattern acros next 11 stitches, place marker, established pattern to end. Pattern is now set. Continue in pattern to approx. 16.5 inches from beginning, ending with a wrong side row. Armhole Shaping: Bind off 6 (9, 11, 14, 16) stitches at the beginning of the next row, 36 (37, 39, 40, 42) stitches. Keeping 1 stitch each edge in Stockinette stitch, continue in pattern to approx. 23 (23.5, 24, 24.5, 25) inches from beginning, ending with a right side row. Neck Shaping: Bind off at neck edge 8 (8, 9, 9, 10) stitches once, and 1 stitch once. Continue even on remaining 22 (23, 24, 25, 26) stitches to same length as back, ending with a wrong side row. Bind off knitwise. Plac markers for 5 buttons with first 1 inch from neck edge and last 6 (6.5, 7, 7.5, 8) inches above lower edge. Space remaining 3 marker 3.5 inches apart. RIGHT FRONT: Beginning at lower edge with larger needles, cast on 42 (46, 50, 54, 58) stitches. First Row (wrong side): Row 1 of Body Pattern across, ending knit 5 for Garter stitch border. Second Row: Knit 5, Row 2 of Body Pattern to end. Pattern is now set. Work even to approx. 4 inches from beginning, ending with a wrong side row. Set Up for CAble Patter: Work established pattern on first 18 (20, 22, 22, 24) stitches, place marker, Row 2 of Cable Pattern acrossnext 11 stitches, place marker, established pattern to end. Pattern is now set. When piece measure approx. 6 (6.5, 7, 7.5, 8) inches from beginning, end with a wrong side row. Buttonhole Row: Knit 2, yarnover, knit 2 together, pattern to end. Repeat buttonhole row 4 times more, matching to markers from left front. Reversing armhole and neck shaping, complete as for left front. POCKETS (make two): With larger needles, cast on 21 stitches. Work Body Pattern until pocket measures approx. 6 inches from beginning, ending with a wrong side row. Bind off. SLEEVEs (make two): Beginning at the cuff with larger needles, cast on 41 stitches. Knit every row for Garter Stitch border to approx. 4inches from beginning. Begin body pattern. Including new stitches as the accumulate, increase one stitches each edge every 4th row 0 (2, 7, 13, 20) times, every 6th row 9 (13, 10, 6, 1) times, and every 8th row 4 (0, 0, 0, 0) times. Continue in pattern on 67 (71, 75, 79, 83) stitches to approx. 21.5 (22.25, 22.75, 23.5, 24) inches from beginnning, ending with a wrong side row. Bind off. FINISHING: Position pockets onto each front, placing bottom at lower edge of front anf matching ribs along sides. Sew in place, remembering to leave the top side unsewn. Join shoulder seams. COLLAR: With right side facing you and smaller needles, pick up and knit 21 (21, 23, 23, 25) stitches along back neck; turn. Row 2 (right side of collar): Knit across, pick up 3 stitches from neck edge; turn. Repeat row 2 9 times more- 51 (53, 53, 55) stitches. Pick up and knit 4 (4, 5, 5, 6) stitches before Garter Stitch band on next 2 rows-(59, 59, 63, 63, 67) stitches. Knit 4 rows. Increase Row: Knit 1, M1, knit across to last stitch, M1, knit 1. Repeat Increase Row every 4th row twice more and then every 6th row twice-69 (69, 73, 73, 77) stitches. AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measure approx. 3.5 inches from beginning, change to larger needles. Continue in Garter Stitch until collar measures approx. 6 inches from the beginnning, ending with a wrong side row. Bind off loosely and knitwise. Set in sleeves, sewing tops of sleeves to bound off stitches at underarms for square armholes. Join underarm and side seams, reversing seam on last 3 inches of sleeve for the cuff. FRINGE: Cut 2 strands of yarn measuring 4 inches each. Holding strands together, fold in half to form a loop. With crochet hook, take loop through first stitch at pocket top; take ends through loop and pull up to tighten. Add fringe to alternate stitches along each pocket top. Trim ends evenly. Using a pin, fray ends. In the same manner, add fringe around the collar;do not fray these ends. For lower edge, cut 2 strands measuring 4.5 inches each; add as before without fraying. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes. CAP: With larger needles, cast on 11 stitches. Work Cable Panel 9 times, then repeat Rows 1-11. Bind off in patter. With the right side facing and larger needles, pick up and knit 61 stitches evenly spaced along one long edge. Knit 19 rows. Shaping: Row 1 (right side): Knit 13, ssk, knit 2 together, knit 27, ssk, knit 2 together, knit 13. Rows 2-4: Knit 57. Row 5: Knit 12, sk, knit 2 together, knit 25, ssk, knit 2 together, knit 11. Rows 6-8: Knit 53. Row 9: Knit 11, ssk, knit 2 together, knit 21, ssk, knit 2 together, knit 11. Rows 10-12: Knit 49. Row 13: Knit 10, ssk, knit 2 together, knit 21, ssk, knit 2 together, knit 10. Row 14: Knit 45. Row 15: Knit 9, ssk, knit 2 together, knit 19, ssk, knit 2 together, knit 9. Row 16: Knit 41. Row 17: Knit 8, ssk, knit 2 together,knit 17, ssk, knit 2 together, knit 8. Bind off 5 stitches. Cut yarn, leaving a 12 inch tail. Thread tail into a yarn needle and back through bound off stitches; pull up to tighten. Sew back seam with the same tail. Cut 10 strands of yarn measuring 12 inches each. With crochet hook, take strands through tip of cap with an equal amount showing on each side. Knit into an overhand knot. Trim ends.
