Too-Cute Cowl Neck Sweater
Sizes: S (MEDIUM, L, XL) Finished Measurements: Bust: 36 (40, 44, 48) inches. Length: 21.5 (22, 22.5, 23) inches. Materials: 845 (910, 1040, 1105) yards of Aqua, size 9 straight knitting needles, size 8, size 10, and size 10.5 - 16" long - circular knitting needles, two stitch holders, stitch markers, and a yarn needle. SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS: Ssk: Slip the next two stitches knitwise, one at a time, to the right-hand needle, insert tip of left-hand needle into fronts of these two stitches and knit together. M1: Lift runnning thread before the next stitch onto the left-hand needle and knit in its back loop to make one stitch. INSTRUCTIONS: BACK: Beginning at the lower edge with straight needles, cast on 72 (80, 88, 96) stitches. Knit 6 rows for the Garter Stitch band. Beginning with a knit row, work Stockinette stitch for 8 rows. Decrease Row (right side): Knit 1, ssk, knit across to the last 2 stitches, knit 2 toegether, knit 1. Repeat Decrease Row every 8th row twice more - 66 (74, 82, 90) stitches. Work 7 rows in stockinette stitch. Increase Row (right side): Knit 1, M1, knit across to the last stitch, M1, knit 1. Repeat Increase Row every 8th row twice more - 72 (80, 88, 96) stitches. Work even in Stockinette stitch to approx. 14" from beginning, ending with a wrong side row. Arm hole Shaping: Bind off 6 (7, 7, 9) stitches at the beginning of the next two rows. Decrease Row (right side): Knit 2, knit 2 together, knit across to the last 4 stitches, ssk, knit 2. Repeat Decrease Row every other row 10 (12, 13, 14) times more - 38 (40, 46, 48) stitches. Continue even to aprox. 21.5 (22, 22.5, 23) inches from the beginning, ending with a wrong side row. Shoulder and Neck Shaping: Bind off 6 (6, 8, 8) stitches at each shoulder edge once. Place the remaining 26 (28, 30, 32) stitches onto a holder for the back neck. FRONT: Work as for Back to approx. 16.5, 16.5, 17, 17.5) inches from beginning, ending with a wrong side row. Place markers on either side of the center 12 (14, 14, 16) stitches onto a holder, koin a new ball of yarn and work to the end of the row. Working sides seperately and at the same time, decrease 1 stitch at each neck edge every row 7 (7, 8, 8) times. Continue even on remaining 6 (6, 8, 8) stitches for each shoulder to the same length as Back, ending with a wrong side row. Bind off. SLEEVES (make two): Beginning at the lower edge with straight needles, cast on 38 (4, 46, 50) stitches. Knit 4 rows for the Garter Stitch Band. Beginning with a knit row, work 6 rows in Stockinette stitch. Decrease Row (right side): Knit 1, knit 2 together, knit across to the last 3 stitches, ssk, knit 1. Repeat Decrease Row every 4th row twice more - 32 (36, 40, 44) stitches. Work 7 stockinette stitch rows. Increase Row (right side): Knit 1, M1, knit across to the last stitch, M1, knit 1. Repeat Increase Row every 4th row 9 times more - 52 (56 60, 64) stitches. Work even to approx. 18" from beginning, ending with a wrong side row. Sleeve Cap Shaping: Bind off 6 (7, 7, 9) stitches at the beginning of the next two rows. Decrease Row (right side): Knit 2, knit 2 together, knit across to the last 4 stitches, ssk, knit 2. Repeat Decrease Row every other row 9 (11, 14, 14) times more. Bind off 2 (3, 2, 2) stitches at hte beginning of the next 2 rows. Bind off the remaining 16 (12, 12, 12) stitches. FINISHING: Block pieces to measurements. Join shoulder seams. Join underarm and side seams. Cowl Neck: Wit the wrong side facing you and size 8 circular needles, knit 26 (28, 30, 32) stitches from the back neck holder. Pick up and knit 20 (22, 22, 22) stitches evenly along the side of the neck, knit 12 (14, 14, 16) stitches from the front holder. Pick up and knit 20 (22, 22, 22) stitches evenly along the side of the neck - 78 (86, 88, 92) stitches. Place a marker to indicate the beginning of the round, then join the ends. Knit 5 rounds. Change to size 10 needle, knit 20 rounds. Change to size 10.5 needle, continue knitting every round until the collar measures approx. 9". Purl 1 round, knit 1 round, purl 1 round for Garter Stitch band. Bind off loosely and knitwise.
