To make the body, cast on 20 stitches onto straight needles. Work in garter stitch for 9 inches. For the flap, change to the second color of yarn and work in garter stitch for 1 1/2 inches. On the next row, make a buttonhole as follows: Knit 9, bind off 2 stitches, knit 8. Knit the next row, casting on 2 stitches over the 2 stitches bound on the previous row. Continue to work in garter stitch until the flap measures 3 inches total. Bind off. If you are making the purse, you will need to knit an i-cord about 45 incehs long or the length you want it. If you are making the wallet, skip that step. Fold the body of the purse or wallet in half, not iincluding the flap. Sew together the sides. Sew on the button, and if you are making the purse, then attach the cord.
