Optional Features
Curly Hair: Cast on 20 stitches. Work in garter stitch until the piece is about 4 inches long. Put a point protector or rubber band around the tips of your knitting needles, so that the stitches won't slide off. Wet it conpletely, squeeze out the water, then unravel the now curled piece so that you have a long cord. Cut this long piece into a strips that are twice the length you want the hair to be. To attach the strips to the head, fold the strip in half, then slide the looped end through a stitch on the doll's head. Put the other two ends from the same throught the loop, then pull tight to the side of the head to form 2 strands of hair. Repeat to the other side, as many time as you want. You can also trim the hair to your favorite style.
Ears (for Animal Bath Puppets): Cast on 7 stitches, leaving a tail of 6 inches at the slip knot. Knit in garter stitch for 3 rows. On the next row, knit 5 stitches. Decrease 1 by knitting two stitches together.
Bear ears: Cast on 8 stitches. Knit 4 rows in garter stitch, then cut the tail so that it's about 8 inches long. Thred a yarn needle with the tail, then slide the stitches on the needle onto the yarn. Pull fairly tight to make a curl at the bottom. Using the remaining thread, sew the ear onto the knitting. Repeat for a second ear.
Bunny ears: Cast on 12 stitches with 2 strands of yarn. The easiest way is to take yarn from two balls. Work in garter stitch for 6 rows, then bind off. Sew this end to the piece of knitting that you're attaching the ears to. Repeat for a second ear.
Tail(s): To make a tail, make a few inches of i-cord on two double-pointe needles. To make i-cord, cast on 3 or 4 stitches, 3 being a less thick cord. Knit garter stitch across those, then turn it upside down so that the top is now the bottom, and switch the needle in your left hand to your right. At first, it will look like you're knitting a big knot. Knit a few inches, or as long as you want the tail to be. When you're done, bind off and sew the tail to the knitting.
