The eyeglass/pen case yarn amount in included in the yarn needed for the backpack. Cast on 32 stitches on straight needles and work in garter stitch until the piece measures 1 1/2 inches. On the next row, make a buttonhole as follows: Knit 3, bind off 2, and knit the remaining stitches. On the next row, cast on 2 stitches about where they were bound off last row. Continue in garter stitch until the piece measures 3 inches. Stop at the end of the case with the buttonhole you created by binding off and casting on. In the next row, bind off 8 and knit the remaining 24 stitches for 3 more inches. Bind off all stitches. Fold the case in half lengthwise and sew the side shut. Weave in any loose ends. Find the spot on the case that matches the buttonhole on the flap. Mark this spot with a piece or yarn or a safety pin, and then sew a button onto that spot.
