Instructions for the Back: Beginning at the lower edge with smaller needles, cast on 57 (60, 63, 66, 72) stitches. Row 1 (right side):Knit 3 (0, 3, 0, 0); *purl 3, knit 3; repeat from * to the end of the row. Row 2:*Purl 3, knit 3; repeat from * to the last 3 (0, 3, 0, 0) stitches; purl 3 (0, 3, 0, 0). Repeat last 2 rows until work measures approx. 3" from beginning, ending with Row 2. Switch to larger needles and proceed as follows: Row 1 (right side): Purl 3 (0, 3, 0, 0); *knit 3, yarn over, sl1-k, knit 2 together, pass the slipped stitch over, yarn over; repeat from * to last 6 stitches; knit 3, purl 3. Row 2: *Knit 3, purl 3; repeat from * to last 3 (0, 3, 0, 0) stitches; knit 3 (0, 3, 0, 0). Row 3: Purl 3 (0, 3, 0, 0); *knit 3, purl 3, repeat from * to end of the row. Row 4: Repeat Row 2. Row 5: Purl 0 (3, 0, 3, 3); *knit 3, yarn over, sl1-k, pass the slipped stitch over, yarn over; repeat from * to last 3 stitches; knit 3. Row 6: Purl 3, *knit 3, purl 3; repeat from * to end of row, ending knit 0 (3, 0, 3, 3). Row 7: Purl 0 (3, 0, 3, 3); *knit 3, purl 3; repeat from * to last 3 stitches; knit 3. Row 8: Repeat Row 6. These 8 rows form Lace Box Pattern. Continue in Lace Box Pattern until Back measures approximately 16.5 inches from beginning, ending with a wrong side row. Armhole Shaping: At the beginning of the next 2 rows, bind off 4 (5, 5, 6, 7) stitches - 49 (50, 53, 54, 58) stitches. Decrease 1 stitch at each end of needle on NEXT and following alternating rows until there are 41 (42, 43, 44, 45, 46) stitches. Continue even in pattern until armhole measures approximately 8 (8.5, 8.5, 9, 9) inches, ending with a wrong side row. Shoulder Shaping: Bind off 10 (10, 10, 10, 11) stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Place remaining 21 (22, 23, 24, 24) stitches on a stitch holder. LEFT FRONT: Beginning at lower edge with smaller needles, cast on 27 (30, 30, 33, 36) stitches. Row 1 (right side): Knit 3 (0, 0, 3, 0); * purl 3, knit 3; repeat from * to end of row. Row 2: * Purl 3, knit 3; repeat from * to last 3 (0, 0, 3, 0) stitches; purl 3 (0, 0, 3, 0). Repeat last 2 rows until work measures approximately 3" from beginning, ending with a Row 2. Change to larger needles and proceed as follows: Row 1( right side): Purl 3 (0, 0, 3, 0) * knit 3, yarn over, sl1-k, kk2tog, psso, yarn over; repeat from * to last 6 stitches; knit 3, purl 3. Row 2: *Knit 3, purl 3; repeat from * to last 3 (0, 0, 3, 0) stitches; knit 3 (0, 0, 3, 0). Row 3: Purl 3 (0, 0, 3, 0) stitches; * knit 3, purl 3; repeat from * to end of row. Row 4: Repeat Row 2. Row 5: Purl 0 (3, 3, 0, 3) stitches; *knit 3, yarn over, sl1-k, k2tog, psso, yarn over, repeat from * to last 3 stitches, knit 3. Row 8: Repeat Row 6. These 8 rows form Lace Box Pattern. Continue in Lace Box pattern until Left Front measures approximately 16.5 inches from beginning, ending with a wrong side row. Armhole and Front Shaping: Bind off 4 (5, 5, 6, 7) stitches at beginning of next row - 23 (25, 25, 27, 29) stitches. Work 1 row even in pattern. Decrease 1 stitch at beginning of NEXT and following alternating rows until there are 19 (21, 20, 22, 23) stitches. Continue even in pattern until armhole measures approximately 5 (5.5, 5.5, 5.5, 5.5) inches, ending with a wrong side row. Neck Shaping: Next Row: Pattern to last 5 (6, 6, 6, 6) stitches (neck edge); slip last 5 (6, 6, 6, 6) stitches onto a stitch holder. Work 1 row even in pattern. Sizes S, L and XL only: Decrease 1 stitch on neck edge on next 3 rows. Work 1 row even in pattern. All Sizes: Decrease 1 stitch at neck edge on next and following alternating rows until there are 10 (10, 10, 10, 11) stitches. Continue even in pattern until armhole measures approximately 8 (8.5, 8.5, 9, 9) inches, ending with a wrong side row. Bind off. RIGHT FRONT: Beginning at lower edge with smaller needles, cast on 27 (30, 30, 33, 36) stitches. Row 1 (right side): * Knit 3, purl 3; repeat from * to last 3 (0, 0, 3, 0) stitches; knit 3 (0, 0, 3, 0). Row 2: Purl 3 (0, 0, 3, 0); * knit 3, purl 3; repeat from * to end of row. Repeat the last 2 rows until work measures approximately 3 inches from beginning, ending with Row 2. Change to larger needles and proceed as follows: Row 1 (right side): Purl 3; *knit 3, yarn over, sl1-k, k2tog, psso, yarn over, repeat from * to last 6 (3, 3, 6, 3) stitches; knit 3, purl 3 (0, 0, 3, 0). Row 2: purl 0 (3, 3, 0, 3); * knit 3, purl 3; repeat from * to last 3 stitches, knit 3. Row 3: *Purl 3, knit 3; repeat from * to last 3 (0, 0, 3, 0)stitches; url 3 (0, 0, 3, 0). Row 4: Repeat Row 2. Row 5: *Knit 3, yarn ovver, sl1-k, k2tog, psso, yarn over; repeat from * to last 3 (6, 6, 3, 6) stitches; knit 3, purl 0 (3, 3, 0, 3). Row 6: Knit 0 (3, 3, 0, 3); *purl 3, knit 3; repeat from * to last 3 stitches; purl 3. Row 7: *Knit 3, purl 3; repeat from * to last 3 (0, 0, 3, 0) stitches; knit 3 (0, 0, 3, 0). Row 8: Repeat Row 6. These 8 rows form Lace Box Pattern. Continue in Lace Box Pattern working Right Front to correspond to Left Front, reversing all shapings. SLEEVES (make two): Beginning at lower edge with larger needles, cast on 36 (36, 40, 40, 44) stitches. Row 1 (right side): *Knit 4, purl 4; repeat from * to last 4 (4, 0, 0, 4) stitches; knit 4 (4, 0, 0, 4). Row 2: Purl 4 (4, 0, 0, 4) stitches; *knit 4, purl 4; repeat from * to end of row. Repeat last 2 rows until work measures approximately 2.5 inches from beginning, ending with Row 1. Next Row (wrong side): (Purl 1, purl 2 together, purl 1) 1 (1, 0, 0, 1) time; *knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 1, purl 1, purl 2 together, purl 1; repeat from * to end of row - 27 (27, 30, 30, 33) stitches. Change to smaller needles and continue in ribbing until work measures approximately 4.5 inches, ending with a wrong side row. Change to larger needles and proceed as follows: Row 1 ( right side): Purl 3 (3, 0, 0, 3); * knit 3, yarn over, sl1-k, k2tog, psso, yarn over; repeat from * to last 6 stitches; knit 3, purl 3.Row 2: *Knit 3, purl 3; repeat from * to last 3 (3, 0, 0, 3) stitches; knit 3 (3, 0, 0, 3). Lace Box Pattern is now in position. Continue in established pattern; shaping sides by increasing 1 stitch at each edge on NEXT and every 8th (6th, 8th, 8th, 10th) row 5 (2, 5, 5, 4) times - 39 (33, 42, 42, 43) stitches, taking increased stitches into Lace Box Stitch Pattern. Size S Only: Increase 1 stitch each edge on following 8th rows 4 times - 41 stitches, taking increased stitches into Lace Box Pattern. All Sizes: Work even in pattern to approximately 18.5 (18.5, 19, 19, 10) inches, ending with a wrong side row. Sleeve Cap Shaping: Keeping continue of established pattern, bind off 2 (2, 2, 3, 3) stitches at the beginning of next 2 rows - 35 (37, 38, 36, 37) stitches. Decrease 1 stitch at each end of needle on NEXT and following alternating rows until there are 5 (5, 6, 6, 7) stitches. Bind off remaining stitches. FINISHING: Button Band: With smaller needles, cast on 7 stitches. Row 1 (right side): Knit 2, (purl 1, knit 1) twice, knit 1. Row 2: (Knit 1, purl 1) 3 times, knit 1. Repeat last 2 rows until band, when slightly stretched, measures length to fit up left front edge to neck edge, sewing in place as you work. Do not bind off. Leave 7 stitches on a safety pin. Place 7 button markers on this band having bottom button .5 inches above cast on edge, top button .5 inches below neck edge and remaining 5 buttons spaced evenly between. Buttonhole Band: Work as given for button Band, sewing to right front and working buttonholes to correspond to markers as follows: Row 1 (right side): Knit 2, purl 1, yarn over, ssk, knit 2. Sew shoulder seams. Sew side and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves. Collar: With right side facing and smaller needles, rib across 7 stitches on Right Front safety pin as follows: Knit 2, (purl 1, knit 1) twice, purl 1; knit 5 (6, 6, 6, 6) from Right Front stitch holder; pick up and knit 11 (11, 11, 13, 13) stitches up Right Front Neck Edge; knit 21 (22, 23, 24, 24) from Back stitch holder, decrease 0 (1, 0, 1, 1) stitch at center; pick up and knit 11 (11, 11, 13, 13) stitches down Left Front neck edge; knit 5 (6, 6, 6, 6) from Left Front stitch holder; rib across 7 stitches on Left Front safety pin as follow: (purl 1, knit 1) 3 times, knit 1 - 67 (69, 71, 75, 75) stitches. Continue in ribbing until Collar measures approximately 8 inches from beginning, ending with a wrong side row. Bind off in rib. Sew buttons in position.
