SIZES: Dress: 2T (THREE TODDLER, 4T) FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Chest: 19 (22.5, 23.5)" Length: 15.5 (17, 19)" MATERIALS: Dress: 265 (265, 512) yards of Red, 256 yards of Blue, 265 yards of White. Hat: 256 yards of Red, 256 yards of blue, and 256 yards of White (Note: There is enough Blue and white for both the hat and dress in 256 yards); Size 8 knitting needles, 2 stitch holder, and a yarn needle. SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS: Sl1, knit 1, psso: Slip next stitch purlwise and with yarn on wrong side, knit 1 stitch, pass the slipped stitch over the knit 1. INSTRUCTIONS FOR DRESS: Back: With blue, cast on 79 (91, 94) stitches. Knit 4 rows for Garter Stitch border. Purl next row. Next Row: Knit 1; (knit 2 together, knit 1) across - 53 (61, 63) stitches. Knit next row.Next row: Change to red and knit across. Purl next row. Work 8 more stockinette stitch rows. Decrease Row: Knit 2, sl1, k1, psso, knit to the last 4 stitches, knit 2 togehter, knit 2 - 51 (59, 61) stitches. Continue in Stockinette stitch and repeat Decrease Row every 8th (10th, 10th) row until 43 (51, 53) stitches reamin. AT THE SAME TIME, after 14 total rows have been completed, work stripe pattern as follows: (2 rows white, 2 rows red) 3 times, 2 rows white. Work with red for the remainder of dress. Continue as set to approx. 10" from beginning, ending with a wrong side row. ARMHOLE SHAPING: Bind off 4 (5, 5) stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows - 35 (41, 43) stitches. Decrease Row (right side): Knit 2, sl1, k1,psso, knit to the last 4 stitches, knit 2 together, knit 2. Next Row: Purl across. Repeat the last two rows twice more - 29 (35, 37) stitches. NECK SHAPING: Knit 7 (9, 9), knit 2 together, knit 2, bind off 7 (9, 11), with 1 stitch on right needle k1, sl1, psso, knit 7 (9, 9) stitches. Right Shoulder, Row 2: Purl 6 (8, 8), purl 2 together, purl 2 - 9 (11, 11) stitches. Row 3: Knit 2, sl1, k1, psso, knit 1 (3, 3), knit 2 together, knit 2 - 7 (9, 9) stitches. Row 4 and alternate rows: Purl across. Row 5: Knit 2, sl1, k1, psso, knit to end - (6, 8, 8) stitches. For size 2T only, skip to Row 9. Row 7: Knit 2, sl1, k1, psso, knit 2 together, knit 2 - 4, (6, 6) stitches. Row 9: Knit 2, sl1, k1, psso, knit 2 - 5 stitches. Row 10: Purl across. Put 5 reamining stitches on stitch holder. Left Shoulder: With the wrong side facing, join yarn: purl 2, purl 2 together, purl across - 9 (11, 11) stitches. Row 2: Knit 2, sl1, k1, psso, knit 1 (3, 3), knit 2 together, knit 2 - 7 (9, 9) stitches. Row 3 and alternate rows: Purl across. Row 4: Knit to the last 4 stitches, knit 2 together, knit 2 - 6 (8, 8) stitches. For size 2T only, go to Row 8. Row 6: Knit 2, sl1, k1, psso, knit 2 together, knit 2 - 4 (6, 6) stitches. Row 8: Knit 2, knit 2 together, knit 2 - 5 stitches. Row 9: Purl across. Put 5 remaining stitches on a stitch holder. FRONT: As for Back. FINISHING: With right sides together and a yarn needle, join the sides. Turn the right out out. To cose the gap at the right front neck, with yarn needle, thread end of joined yarn through first cast off stitch from front of stitch; then through first stitch to right from the back of the stitches. Weave end into the back of the shoulder strap. Shoulder ties (make 4): Cut 3 - 24" lengths of blue yarn. With yarn needle, thread yarn through one group of 5 stitches on stitch holder. With 6 lengths even, divde in 3 and braid to end. Tie a knot 1" from end and trim ends. Weave all loose ends into the wrong side of work. HAT (approx. 14" around): With blue, cast on 93 stitches. Knit 2 rows. Row 3: Purl across. Row 4: Knit across. Row 5: Purl across. Row 6: (Knit 1, knit 2 together) across - 62 stitches. Row 7: Knit across. With red, continue in Stockinette stitch for 6 rows, beginning with a knit row. Continue in Stockinette stitch, work 2 rows white, 2 rows red, 2 rows white, and 6 rows red. Crown Shaping: Row 1 (right side): Continue in red, knit 9, knit 2 together, (knit 8, knit 2 together) 5 times, knit 1 - 56 stitches. Row 2 and all alternate rows: Purl across. Row 3: Knit 8, knit 2 togehter, (knit 7, knit 2 together) 5 times, knit 1 -50 stitches. Row 5: Knit 7, knit 2 together, (knit 6, knit 2 together) 5 times, knit 1 -44 stitches. Continue as set, decreasing 6 stitches on rigth side rows until 8 stitches remain and ending with a knit row. Cut 6" tail of yarn and thread it through 8 stitches on needle; gather stitches and secure on the wrong side. FINISHING: Sew center back seam. Weave all loose ends into inside of work.
